Hull Trains’ Innovative Solution keeps Passengers Informed

Hull Trains has become the first UK train operator to install Real-Time Information screens in carriages fleetwide.

The rollout of the KeTech Keinform500 onboard information screens follows a successful trial undertaken last year with leasing company Angel Trains and Wi-Fi provider Icomera.

The high-definition screens display live train running information fed from the national Darwin data system. Passengers are also shown departure boards when approaching interchange stations, along with London Underground status updates and even weather forecasts. The KeTech system can also be used to inform passengers of scheduled engineering works, and provide promotional offers and services.

Hull Trains is an open access operator owned by First Group. It runs services from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire to London via local stations in the North-East and key East Coast Mainline stations. Real-time Information screens will be very useful for passengers making the commute to London.

Jon Plowright, Head of Engineering at Hull Trains said: “The state of the art equipment is an innovative solution to meeting the information needs of today’s customer.”

The project is a collaborative scheme involving various partners including Hull Trains, ATOC, Angel Trains, Alstom, KeTech and Icomera.
