Icomera Wins "GREAT Initiatives" Award

Icomera has today been named as the recipient of this year’s GREAT Initiatives Award.

Announced as part of this week’s SMART CITY seminar in Gothenburg, the award recognises those who are leading the way in the development of the digital society, driving innovation and improving quality of life for individuals, companies and organizations.

Icomera is considered to be one of the biggest Swedish technology success stories in recent years. Its technology delivers onboard Internet for public transport passengers and systems, currently connecting millions of Wi-Fi users every week, in more than 40 countries worldwide.

Icomera was founded in 1999 by four graduates of the Chalmers Institute of Technology in Gothenburg and has proudly maintained its headquarters in the city to this day.

The GREAT Initiatives award was established in 2010 by the GREAT network for IT-infrastructure in the West Region of Sweden.

Speaking on the award win Mr. Karl-Johan Holm, President and CEO of Icomera said: “Our technology has many benefits for transport operators, passengers and the wider public. Our vision is of a future society that is safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly. Icomera is in a unique position to deliver a better public transport experience and we believe this is critical to improving the economic and social quality of life of the population.”

Mr Jerker Lindsten, Chairman of the Board of GREAT added: “Icomera has long created Internet access for ordinary people in complex environments such as trains and buses. It is now taking the next step and developing and implementing infotainment, telematic and other automotive services as part of its portfolio, which brings vehicles and passengers to the Smart City and Internet of Things, where they can communicate seamlessly and are always connected.
