50 000 have used SJ's Onboard Internet

March 17th, 2006

Since the start in the autumn 50 000 users on board SJ's X 2000 trains have connected to the Internet. This confirms SJ's position as the world's most connected train operator.

After a cautious start, SJ's Onboard Internet service has developed more favourably than expected. In six months 50 000 passengers have connected to the Internet. More than half have used the service over the last two months.

"An increasing number of passengers have discovered the advantages of being able to work or surf the Internet for leisure while travelling. At the start we had 400 weekly users, today we have 4 000. And according to our estimates the number of users will continue to increase", says Thomas Oberländer, responsible for SJ's Internet launch.

First class passengers have free access to the Onboard Internet, whereas passengers in second class pay for the service.

"The Internet System has worked well and we can see that many who have tried it use it again", says Thomas Oberländer.

In 2006 the Onboard Internet will also become available on the new double-decker regional X40 trains. It will also be possible to subscribe to the service for frequent travellers.

Every day more than 70 000 passengers travel by SJ. There is a choice of 1 400 departures. 3 200 employees make it their task to make travelling by train as comfortable as ever possible.
