Icomera Vehicle Gateway

Icomera Vehicle Gateway provides a consistent network interface for all the IP-enabled devices on your vehicle. At one end, Icomera Vehicle Gateway connects to the outside world using a combination of access networks and at the other end Icomera Vehicle Gateway provides a simple Ethernet interface to connect a single device or an entire onboard network.

Icomera Vehicle Gateway contains unique and patented software that enables the system to seamlessly communicate over multiple networks and always choose the most optimal combination of networks. The selection of network carriers can be tuned according to the requirements of the application and includes choices for least cost routing, enhanced stability and optimal bandwidth. The technology has been verified over virtually all available wireless networks, most noticeably UMTS, EDGE, Wi-Fi and satellite.

With the Icomera Vehicle Gateway installed on the vehicle, the onboard systems are also addressable from the outside, via the Icomera Stationary System. This enables both monitoring of onboard systems as well as remote updates and configuration changes.

Modern vehicles contain a big number of devices that would benefit from having a stable communication link with the outside world. Examples of such devices are information signs, point of sales equipment, CCTC, passenger counting systems, engines etc. Without a consistent network connection to the outside world, such equipment cannot easily be integrated or the installation of them might require multiple roof-mounted antennas. By using IVG, all such components can use the network connection provided by IVG for their communication with the outside world.

Included services

Icomera Vehicle Gateway includes a number of services that are available to users and devices on the vehicle:

  • Time reference: The real time clock of the IVG is kept synchronised by the use of GPS. The time reference can be broadcast on the onboard network.
  • Positioning: Onboard devices can access up to date positioning data. The position is also sent to ISS on a regular and configurable basis.
  • Web portal: Access to the onboard system from user on the vehicle is done via a web interface. Besides its use for configuration, the interface also shows updated information on position, speed and communication status.

Remote maintenance and configuration

Icomera Vehicle Gateway is fully reachable from where the Icomera Stationary System is installed and virtually all aspects of its operation can be monitored and updated remotely. There are also interfaces to monitor the use of communication resources as well as retrieving historical positioning data for a specific vehicle.
