SJ Upgrading Onboard Internet to Attract More Passengers

Swedish rail operator SJ is upgrading its existing onboard Internet service on its route between Karlstad and Gothenburg in the hope that it will attract more passengers.

SJ said that when they conducted a survey to find what mattered most to their passengers, reliable onboard Wi-Fi placed third, behind the service running on time and getting a seat.

Since last year the number of passengers travelling between Karlstad and Gothenburg has increased by five per cent, with business travellers contributing heavily to the increase.

“With the onboard Internet, travelers can use their travel time more efficiently. We hope that more people will leave the car and choosing the much greener train”, said Anders Larsson, Business Manager at SJ, in a press release.
