UK Transport Minister Stephen Hammond has listed free passenger Wi-Fi, alongside more traditional elements of rail travel, as one of the key ingredients of a positive passenger experience.

Speaking to ITV on the news that the Essex Thameside Rail franchise is to stay with c2c for another 15 years, the minister said: “By the end of the next franchise there will be 29,000 extra seats in the morning peak, which is 17 new trains. It’s upgrades to stations up and down the line, it’s free Wi-Fi on the train, those are the sorts of things that really matter to the passenger”.
