Icomera Launches Real-Time Video Surveillance Management System

Icomera has applied its expertise in connected solutions for public transportation to deliver a new real-time video surveillance system which allows operators to remotely view live onboard camera feeds, and review and retrieve footage of any incidents while the vehicle is in service.

Introducing ICONIC VMS

As part of the Icomera Network Insights and Control (ICONIC) software suite, Icomera offers a high-performance, integrative Video Management System (VMS) comprised of secure distributed and web-based systems.

Onboard cameras are connected to Icomera’s high-capacity connectivity platform to ensure that all video footage is captured, stored, and transmitted at the highest possible resolution.

Icomera’s SureWAN™ algorithm intelligently aggregates all available capacity from communication networks along the vehicle’s route, allowing for better data throughput and stability.

This improved connectivity allows operators to reliably live-stream HD video feeds and download footage regardless of the vehicle’s speed or location, improving onboard safety and security for passengers, staff, and assets through faster reaction times and more appropriate incident responses.

The innovative and fully configurable VMS software comes with numerous features and benefits as standard:

  • Powerful, Intuitive, Customised Multi-Camera Views
  • Fully Configurable for Optimised Data Consumption
  • Real-Time GPS Vehicle & Device Monitoring
  • Intelligent Access Rights Management

Video Wall – Powerful, Intuitive, Customised Multi-Camera Views

At the heart of the ICONIC VMS solution lies the Video Wall view, which offers effortless playback and recording of as many camera feeds as are needed. Video Walls are fully editable for maximum flexibility and coverage, based on the specific requirements of the situation.

By viewing multiple live feeds simultaneously, security personnel can monitor and respond to situations before they have a chance to escalate. In the event that forensic information is needed, HD video recordings can be requested by time, date, and vehicle, uploaded to the server from the onboard device or vehicle, then downloaded by end users with the sufficient access rights.

Fully Configurable for Optimised Data Consumption

Public transport operators may face strict restrictions on bandwidth and data consumption, which could arise from budgetary constraints due to the cost of data plans, limited cellular capacity along routes preventing the transfer of larger data volumes, or technical limitations of the existing onboard hardware setups and storage systems.

The ICONIC VMS maximises data usage efficiency without compromising on video quality. Advanced compression algorithms reduce data consumption considerably, with additional options for users to configure video frames per second (fps), bitrate settings, and predicted frame (p-frame) technology to ensure that fit-for-purpose video is always available when needed – Whether viewing, recording, uploading, offloading, or analysing footage.

The ICONIC VMS Map screen allows users to track their vehicles and onboard assets, and record and stream video while they are on the move.

The Entire Fleet at a Glance Real-time GPS Vehicle & Device Monitoring

By arranging their fleets and onboard assets using ICONIC, operators gain a clear overview of their system architecture and a complete understanding of which onboard devices are travelling within each vehicle. Security personnel can monitor the position of vehicles and devices using real-time GPS data, providing a highly accurate and reliable means of seeing which cameras are operational at any given time. Live video feeds from each individual camera can be streamed at the click of a button.

Intelligent Access Rights Management

ICONIC VMS supports fully featured access rights management with multi-factor authentication, providing the highest level of security and confidentiality throughout the solution. The system is fully adaptable such that each user type can view and configure what is necessary, based on their role within the business. For example, security centre staff monitoring the VMS video viewer may only have access to view video data feeds but may not be able to configure or change any other part of the system.

Smarter, Safer Journeys

Onboard video surveillance systems are becoming ever-more sophisticated. A camera is just like any other onboard sensor – provided you have the intelligence to correctly interpret the data, you can use it for a range of applications such as Automatic Passenger Counting (APC), track obstruction detection, and overhead line equipment (OLE) and pantograph monitoring. On demand access to onboard sensor data like this supports resilient and reliable ‘predict and prevent’ maintenance strategies.

The ICONIC VMS has been designed to integrate advancements in video analytics as they become available, supporting ever smarter, safer journeys as we work to shift society’s travel habits further towards sustainable modal choices.
