Icomera Wins German-Swedish Business Award

Icomera Germany GmbH has been named ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Swedish Enterprise Awards in Germany.

The awards, sponsored by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Germany and Business Sweden in cooperation with the Swedish Embassy, have been presented annually since 2003 to Swedish companies making a positive impact in Germany. Previous winners include Ericsson, Scania, Securitas, SKF and Volvo Cars.

Icomera, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENGIE Ineo since May 2017, was originally founded in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1999. Today it is a world-leading provider of mobile Internet connectivity for public transport passengers and systems, currently connecting millions of Wi-Fi users every week, in more than 40 countries worldwide. Its German subsidiary, Icomera Germany GmbH, began operating in July last year, offering comprehensive local support to Icomera’s customer base of transport operators in the region.

Speaking at last night’s award ceremony in Munich, Thomas Ryberg, President of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Germany said: “These awards are intended to celebrate the work of companies that achieve successful global operations and promote Swedish values when conducting business. Icomera is being recognised for its outstanding contribution to public transport in Germany. Its activities in the region have helped strengthen business ties between Sweden and Germany, creating many future opportunities for cross-border collaboration between businesses in both countries.”

Karl-Johan Holm, CEO of Icomera said: “We at Icomera are honoured to join the ranks of Swedish companies that have won this award in previous years. Our technology has many benefits for transport operators, passengers and the wider public. The ever-increasing pressure on urban infrastructure and growing levels of pollution means now, more than ever, it is critical to bring about a paradigm shift in the way people travel. Public transport needs to become more attractive versus other alternatives and our solutions are key to the success of this change in attitudes. Icomera’s wireless Internet connectivity solutions deliver a better public transport experience for passengers and we believe this is critical to improving the economic and social quality of life for the population.”
