First Hull Trains win Travel Project of the Year at the Techworld Awards

First Hull Trains’ single-sign-up 4G-enabled Wi-Fi solution was named Travel Project of the Year at last week’s Techworld Awards in London. The event was a “celebration of innovation by both IT teams and IT suppliers in a period of unprecedented technological change”.

The project, led by FirstGroup, the parent company of First Hull Trains, in conjunction with technology firms Icomera, CapMedia, The Cloud, Masabi and ASW, offers First Hull Train’s passengers an enhanced, consistent Wi-Fi service and access to a selection of the latest ITV programmes on board.

The free service offers a one-time single sign-up (SSU) solution, which means that passengers travelling with First Hull Trains can say goodbye to the continued need to log-back in to the Wi-Fi system when connectivity is lost. This is a first for a 4G-enabled Wi-Fi solution in the UK.

Speaking at the launch of the service in October, Dave Palmer, Senior VP Sales and Business Development for Icomera commented: “With the successful delivery of this Wi-Fi and entertainment solution First Hull Trains are fully utilising the best technologies available to improve the passenger experience, enhancing their already prominent position as a leading contributor to the development of a truly 21st century UK rail industry”.
