About the Role:
In this role you and your team will be focusing on the implementation of innovative IT/OT projects, especially in the railway sector, at a high level and using Icomera’s products and solutions.
You will design, develop and present Icomera product based technical designs.
In this role you will be working with detailed development of solution concepts and active support of the various project work packages, from network design through configuration and testing to documentation and implementation.
You will have the responsibility for the interaction between Icomera teams (including project, sales, product and service management) and the customer’s project teams.
As part of the European Solution Engineering team, the role will be involved in projects with our European customers, so travel within Europe is expected.
Location and work dynamics:
The position is based in our UK office located at Victory House, Quayside, Chatham Maritime, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4QU. This position can also be located in our Rome, Italy office.
Key Responsibilities

About the Job:
The Senior Electrical Engineer role within the DG8 business is required to take technical responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of electrical design tasks, consisting of, but not limited to drawings, parts specifications, risk assessments, installation procedures and calculations. Working with all linked disciplines to ensure a solution is delivered that meets all relevant legal and safety standards as well as quality expectations within the committed timescales. This role is part of a wider team of electrical engineers but is required to work in conjunction with the assigned Project Engineer, Structural Engineer, and Design Engineer amongst others.
This role also requires the successful applicant to undertake vehicle surveys as well as on-site installation support. Therefore, travel is an essential part of the role, and this can be anywhere within the UK and potentially further afield.
The engineer will also undertake related activities to ensure that the requirements of the customer and the company are always upheld. This will include tasks such as client design reviews, internal design reviews and standards compliance reviews.
The company reserves the right to require the employee to undertake additional tasks or duties as may be within the employees’ capabilities, from time to time both on the company and/or customer’s site.
Who You Are:
You will hold a UK spec accredited degree in electronic and electrical engineering (or similar) and in possession of or working towards chartership status with a recognised industry body. You will have experience of schematic and wiring diagram drawing production, ideally in Siemens Solid Edge software and a proven track record of leading small teams in the production of on train electrical design solutions from concept to installation.
You have knowledge / experience of:

Our creative and versatile group of designers and engineers are experienced in delivering design led projects from concept to implementation.
We mainly work for clients within the Rail transport sector and our team have extensive experience of the Rail vehicle market, working at all tiers of the supply chain.
The majority of DG8’s work is UK based, but there have been occasions where we have been requested to support UK companies in overseas markets. About the Role:
The Structural Engineer role within DG8 will primarily involve the structural assessment of designs created by DG8. Where necessary, it may also extend to broader engineering responsibilities in support of project delivery. You will work closely with our Project Engineers and Design Engineers to shape solutions that meet customer requirements, while producing reports to demonstrate compliance with relevant standards.
The role includes undertaking vehicle surveys, so travel (UK and occasionally overseas) is required.
You will also participate in related activities to ensure customer and company requirements are met — including client design reviews, internal reviews, and quality checks of your work and associated drawings.
Key responsibilities:
Undertake work on a variety of projects, providing structural guidance for design development.
Create ANSYS models or hand calculations using data from 3D CAD models, assembly and detailed drawings as part of engineering change packs.
Ensure adherence to quality system procedures during all processes.
Actively participate in design reviews with customers and internally with project teams.
Liaise with suppliers to gain information to allow the design to proceed through to completion.
Communicate with other members of the project team for guidance on the overall production of engineering change packages.
As and when required, undertake vehicle surveys on-site to gain the information required to start the design process.
If required, pro-actively develop the competencies required to enable progression towards chartership.
Requirements:
A UK-SPEC accredited degree in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably in Mechanical Engineering). Achieved grade of 2:1 or above.
Around 2–3 years of experience in an engineering environment, though other levels of experience will be considered.
Experience in rail or a similar safety-critical, design-focused industry.
Familiarity with working in or supporting project and design teams. An understanding of engineering drawings. An understanding of 3D modelling and its creation.
Proficiency in CAD systems – ideally Siemens Solid Edge or SolidWorks.
Experience with FEA systems – ideally ANSYS.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. IT literate with good working knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Office 365.
Working towards chartership (IMechE or equivalent), or committed to doing so.
Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
Effective communicator, able to work independently or as part of a team.
Full UK driving licence – required for on-site vehicle surveys.

- Ensure up-to-date supplier data and maintain sourcing documents and framework agreements
