Real-time technology is elevating the public transit experience in Santa Clara Valley for almost 11 million light rail riders through a partnership between TransLoc, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and Icomera’s US partner SinglePoint Communications.
The addition of real-time transit information through TransLoc allows riders to know the location and arrival time of their train at any point along the route. This puts riders in control of their schedule by minimizing wait time and helping them avoid missing trains. The information can be accessed in real time from a web browser or smartphone using TransLoc’s top-rated mobile apps.
In addition to knowing exactly where their train is, riders can now receive alerts when their train is arriving and easily plan around personal schedule changes or non-routine trips. Riders with access to real-time passenger information commonly report improved travel efficiency, ease of use, and feelings of security and trust in the system.
The partnership was made possible through VTA’s long-term relationship with SinglePoint Communications, which uses Icomere’s technology to provide high-speed Wi-Fi to VTA light rail.
