Icomera UK Is Making a Difference to Medway's Ecology

Icomera’s UK team took part in an urban tree planting activity day organised by the charity Trees for Cities, in line with Icomera’s commitment to contribute to a sustainable and inclusive society and minimise its environmental impact.

The UK team’s tree-planting day follows other activities by teams in Europe and North America as part of Icomera’s global ‘Making a Difference’ initiative – where teams in all countries where Icomera is present come together to support projects targeting societal and environmental improvements in their local communities on an annual basis.

13 members of the Icomera UK team met at Stonehill Park, Medway, to undergo a demonstration and a health and safety briefing before getting fully stuck in and planting 400 trees over the course of the day.

As a testament to their passion and efficiency, the Icomera team managed to plant 50% more trees than expected.

Stoneham Park is currently an open grassland, which is relatively featureless and lacks shade, set within a neighbourhood which sits amongst the 40% most deprived inthe country.  The new trees planted by the Icomera UK team will support biodiversity, sequester CO2 and improve local air quality, and engage residents and local businesses alike; in line with Trees for Cities’ goal to transform Stoneham Park from an underused, sparse grassland into a thriving ecosystem and community attraction, where it is needed most.

Peter Kingsland Icomera’s SVP UK & Australia, said:Icomera is proud to be able to support our local community and environment. Icomera’s vision of a safer, greener future for everyone extends beyond making public transport a more attractive option.

Our teams across the globe have demonstrated a strong commitment and passion for making this goal a reality through the ‘Making a Difference’ initiative and we would like to thank them all for their incredible efforts.
